Gold Youth STEMM Award

Earners of this badge have engaged in a minimum of 150 hours of extracurricular STEMM-based learning where they have demonstrated their passion and enthusiasm for exploring topics relating to the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine. They have participated in a wide range of practical activities, project work, and interactive events where they have gained a deeper understanding of STEMM subjects and developed new skills by sharing their knowledge with other students.

Earner has positively interacted with individuals their own age or younger for a minimum of 30 hours to boost the level of interest in STEMM subjects. They have demonstrated leadership skills and worked with at least two groups of students from different schools where they have displayed an in-depth knowledge of a STEMM topic. Earners have gained experience in developing and delivering a novel activity or project, teaching STEMM content, and mentoring at least two younger students.
Earner has embedded their knowledge in different contexts by completing a minimum of 30 hours engaging the public in STEMM-based learning. They have been actively involved in developing and delivering an activity at two events held in different settings. Earner has successfully applied their digital skills by using social media or technology while engaging with others. They have demonstrated their passion for encouraging STEMM-based learning through participation in a public debate.
Earner has dedicated a minimum of 45 hours to developing their skills and knowledge of STEMM topics. They have attended three STEMM-related events held at a minimum of two venues and are able to successfully demonstrate an extension of a skill or knowledge area by producing a research project on a new topic. Earner has also created a ‘scientific’ style poster on their research and presented their project findings in a formal setting.
Earner has displayed a willingness to further their professional development by spending a minimum of 45 hours exploring careers in STEMM sectors. They have researched one STEMM area and are able to evidence that they are working towards a career pathway by seeking professional guidance, undertaking work experience, and practice interviews with adults from outside their education setting (where possible). They have dedicated up to 25 hours for gaining relevant work experience or shadowing.
