Earners of this badge have demonstrated the knowledge and understanding required to support children & young people’s play and leisure. It requires knowledge of play and leisure activities, and helping children & young people to manage risk and challenge. Earners have also explored enrichment through an extra-curricular activity such as a study club, recreational activity, sports team or performing arts activity.

Earner has demonstrated their understanding of the nature and importance of play and leisure by preparing a leaflet describing its benefit, and how they contribute to development. Earner has also distinguished the difference between play, leisure and adult led activities as well as outlining the requirements of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in relation to relaxation and play.

Earner has developed an understanding of their own role in relation to the requirements of play and leisure activities by delivering a presentation. During the presentation, earner has outlined the importance of knowing when to leave children & young people to play or relax uninterrupted. They also identified adaptations that can be made to support special educational needs and people with disabilities to participate in a full range of play and leisure opportunities.

Earner has demonstrated their understanding of how to balance risk with the challenge of play and leisure opportunities by completing a risk benefits analysis as part of this unit. They produced a handout to explain the value of risk and describe why it is important for pupils to manage risk and challenge themselves.
