Earners of this badge have completed a two day Mental Health First Aid course. Earners have learnt how to deal with crisis situations such as suicidal behaviour, self harm and acute psychotic behaviour. Following the programme, earners will have the tools to identify where and how to get help for someone in need of help and have learnt the ALGEE model.

Criteria

This badge is only available to Students, Members or Employees.

Earner has learnt what is meant by mental health/mental ill health. This will help earners distinguish between poor mental health and ill mental health, and this will help them understand and support people experiencing poor mental health.

Earner has learnt how to deal in crisis situations such as suicidal behaviour, self harm, panic attacks and psychotic behaviour. Earner has learnt the importance of listening and responding appropriately, as they are key skills to building rapport.

Earner has identified a range of support services including both professional and personal sources of help including GPs, counsellors, psychiatrists, or family and friends; this gives earner the tools to signpost people to the appropriate forms of support.

Earner has identified the benefits of self-care and has completed a range of self-care activities such as exercise and/or therapies like massage or just had a chance to sit, relax and chill out.

Earner has learnt how to use the ALGEE Model; applying this model enables earner to assess the situation and ensure safety, listen and communicate with empathy, give support and information, encourage professional help, and encourage self care and coping strategies.
