Earners of this badge have the understanding, knowledge and skills to support children with disabilities and/or special needs to fully engage and participate in a childcare setting. Earners have learnt about the causes of disability and the theories of support that are available within this domain.

Earner has demonstrated their presentation and communication skills while practicing their disability awareness to understand and identify how additional needs can occur in children. Earner has produced a presentation that explained the causes of special educational needs and gave examples of genetic, developmental and acquired needs.

Earner has demonstrated their planning, resource development and teamwork skills by promoting and creating a schedule of learning activities for children with additional needs. Earner has produced a worksheet resource using a child centred approach, working in a team and observing delivery of the learning activity within other groups. Earner has then shared their learning amongst their peers in a class discussion.

Earner has demonstrated their literacy, IT and research skills when producing a digital poster that compares the medical, social and psycho-social models of disability. This poster explained how each model has evolved over time and further describes how the perspective impacts on service delivery.
