Earners of this badge have completed a two day Mental Health First Aid course. Earners have learnt how to deal with crisis situations such as suicidal behaviour, self-harm and acute psychotic behaviour. Earners have the tools to identify where and how to get help for someone in need of help and have learnt the ALGEE model.

Earner has earned certification as a Health First Aider to provide initial support for mental health challenges and achieved confidence in addressing mental health issues. Earner has learnt what is meant by mental health/mental ill health. This will help them distinguish between poor mental health and ill mental health, and this will help them understand and support people experiencing poor mental health.

Earner has learnt how to deal in crisis situations such as suicidal behaviour, self harm, panic attacks and psychotic behaviour. Earner has learnt the importance of listening and responding appropriately, as they are key skills to building rapport.

Earner has gained the knowledge to recognise those that may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first-level support and early intervention.

Earner has learnt how to use the ALGEE Model; applying this model enables earner to assess the situation and ensure safety, listen and communicate with empathy, give support and information, encourage professional help, and encourage self care and coping strategies.
