Criteria

Earner has developed critical thinking and observation skills by examining hair and fibre samples. They have explored hair difference between human ethnic backgrounds, identification of animal/human hair, makeup, and the background of fibres, for example plant, animal and synthetic.
Earner has examined physical evidence left at crime scenes. They have gained an understanding of casting marks including casting marks left at crime scenes and how these can be collected, including electrostatic lifting apparatus (ELSA), pathway demonstration, and Gel Lifters. Earner has compared scene markings and learnt difference between conclusive and non-conclusive marks.
Earner has learnt the use of Microscopes to when using microbiology to establish time of death and identify locations, algae, pollen, and plants that may be present at a crime scene.
Earner has increased their understanding of biochemistry by analysing blood for use in chemical evidence, using the Kastle Meyer Test, Hemastix and Luminol. They have learnt about Blood spatter to support with identifying the direction of travel of a weapon, point of origin, and number of blows.
