Essential Skills Academy Badge

Kingston Council Skills & Employment

This badge is awarded to people who completed Kingston's 10-week Essential Skills Academy programme. The programme helps participants develop the key skills needed for jobs in Health and Social Care and boosts their employability. It uses the Skills Builder Partnership Universal Framework, which focuses on a shared language for skills and highlights eight essential skills for work.

Participants worked with employers to find work placements and apply for roles, aligning their skills to the needs of the sector. They also received tailored career advice, including a review of their strengths and areas for improvement. Each person demonstrated their understanding of the eight essential skills and committed to improving them using the Academy's tools and resources.

Criteria

Participants must attend all 10 in-person sessions, engaging with the employability curriculum designed to enhance essential skills and employability in the Health and Social Care sector.

Participants should actively engage with the Universal Framework, reflecting on the transferability of essential work skills and understanding the importance of a common language in professional settings.

Participants must set individualised goals, practice articulation of skills, and gather feedback from peers, demonstrating a commitment to personal and professional growth.

Participants must attend at least three employer work exposure sessions and actively engage with employers, and attend subsequent interviews and assessments.
