Duke of Edinburgh Award - Bronze

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Bronze level is a qualification badge that recognises the achievement of young people who have completed a series of challenges designed to develop skills, physical fitness, social responsibility and expedition skills. This award is the first level of the programme and serves as an introduction to personal development and community engagement. The DofE programme young people have fun, make friends, improve their self-esteem and build confidence. They gain essential skills and attributes for work and life such as resilience, problem-solving, team-working, communication and drive, enhancing CVs and university and job applications.

Criteria

Participants must complete a skills activity for a minimum of three months, choosing from a wide range of options. Developing a skill helps individuals get better at something they are really interested in and gives the confidence and ability to use this skill both now and later in life.

Participants are required to commit to a physical activity for a minimum of three months.The activity can include anything that requires a sustained level of energy and physical activity for a required period of time.

Participants must engage in a volunteering activity for three months, contributing to their community or environment in a meaningful way.

Participants are required to take part in an overnight expedition in an area not known to them. The aim is to develop initiative and a spirit of adventure and discovery by planning, training for and completing an adventurous self-sufficient journey as part of a team. Participants choose where and how they want to do their expedition over a two day / one night period of time.
