Pathways PSP English - Excelsa

The Pathways PSP English - Excelsa accreditation celebrates students who demonstrated exceptional creativity, criticality, and exploration in their responses to and production of the written word. At this stage, students produced work which engaged with complex material to a level impressive for this age and stage. They pursued independent reading, raised complex questions, and often linked literature to wider cultural, philosophical, or theoretical ideas. Their written and spoken work reflected a developing scholarly voice and a deepening awareness of literary form, function, and context. Their engagement with English within and beyond the classroom demonstrated impressive academic leadership.

Produced responses to texts with an impressive level of academic rigour and insightful argumentation, expressed with a real authority of voice
Took a leading role in literary discussions, often prompting new perspectives or modelling scholarly curiosity. Initiated projects such as reviewing books, leading presentations, or mentoring others.
Engaged with texts and ideas far beyond the curriculum. Read critically, drew on external sources or theory, and integrated wider understanding to enhance interpretation and personal response.
Produced analysis of writers' methods demonstrates an impressive sensitivity to linguistic, literary and generic features, using terminology and evidence fluently to support their views.
Written work is consistently scholarly, ambitious, insightful and detailed, often well beyond the standard required at this level
Engaged in group and individual presentation tasks with an impressive level of dedication and care, bringing the best out of others in their group through their leadership
