Sport Careers Preparation for KS4 & KS5 Learners

The Careers and Technical Education team at SkillsHouse, working with local sports organisations, employers, training providers and FE partners, have developed this Sport pathway to help learners build knowledge, skills and confidence for careers within the sport, fitness and physical activity sector.

This pathway introduces students to a wide range of opportunities within sport through a combination of careers exploration, employer engagement, leadership development and industry-based learning. Activities may include career insight sessions, Girls into Sport programmes, personal training workshops, sports coaching and psychology activities, sports leadership training, workplace experiences and visits to sports and education providers.

The pathway supports KS4 and KS5 learners studying subjects such as GCSE Physical Education, BTEC Sport, OCR Cambridge Nationals in Sport Studies, Level 2 and 3 Sport qualifications, A Level Physical Education and related health and fitness programmes. Learners benefit from direct engagement with employers, sports professionals, colleges and training providers, helping them understand progression routes into careers including coaching, personal training, sports development, sports psychology, leisure management and the wider sport and fitness industry.

Through participation, learners will develop essential employability skills including communication, leadership, teamwork, confidence, problem solving and self-direction, alongside industry-specific knowledge and an understanding of post-16 and post-18 opportunities within the sector.
