Earners of this badge have an understanding of the expected development patterns for children, the factors that influence development and the importance of early intervention. Earners have been able to assess development and support the provision of environments that promote development. Earners have learnt how to nurture children’s development of speech, language and communication, along with supporting a variety of behaviours.

Earner has demonstrated their language development and analysis skills to produce a written report analysing the importance of early identification of speech, language and communication delays. They further explored how multi-agency teams work together to support speech and language development. Earner has discussed findings as part of a group and shared key pieces of information with peers. Earner was observed by an assessor during the group work process.

Earner has used their planning, childcare knowledge and literacy skills when producing daily and weekly plans for routines and schedules to meet the individual needs of babies and young children. The plans included physical care routines, nutritional needs and play schedules. The plan was agreed with their supervisor and observations were scheduled for toilet training, personal hygiene care, physical activities and nutritional needs.

Earner has used their collaboration and communication skills when producing a poster which explained the pattern and sequence of expected development from 0-5 year olds. The poster was given out in class and discussed in small groups. Earner has collaborated with others in their team to compare the posters and the group then produced a presentation combining the findings.
