The Computer Science PSP Pathway develops confident, analytical, and ethically aware technologists who move from foundational digital fluency to advanced software engineering and academic leadership. Across each stage, students gain technical mastery, creative problem-solving ability, and a mature understanding of the impact of computing on society.

At Foundation PSP (Years 7–8), students explore the building blocks of computational thinking. They learn to decompose problems, use logic to plan solutions, and begin to code using block-based environments and Python. Topics such as file management, website design, digital media creation, and basic AI introduce key digital skills and encourage creativity. Students also build awareness of online safety, privacy, and ethical technology use through discussions of cyberbullying, digital footprints, and algorithmic bias. Collaborative project work allows them to express ideas while learning how software interacts with real-world data and users. Many extend their learning through competitions (e.g. Bebras, CyberFirst).

In Pathways PSP (Years 9–11), students deepen their computational knowledge through the GCSE curriculum. They develop confidence in Python programming using selection, iteration, subroutines, and data structures such as lists and arrays. They also gain proficiency in relational databases, spreadsheets, and algorithmic problem-solving through pseudocode and flowcharts. Theoretical knowledge includes system architecture, cybersecurity, networks, and data representation. Students complete structured assessments and engage in digital project work that reflects real-world processes. Many extend their learning through competitions (e.g. Bebras, Perse) or take leading roles in computing clubs and STEM activities.

At Advanced PSP (Years 12–13), students demonstrate refined programming skills and academic independence. They write and test full-scale applications using object-oriented and procedural paradigms, often incorporating APIs, file handling, and layered security. Their NEA (Non-Examined Assessment) project involves designing, developing, and evaluating a bespoke software solution for a real user or scenario. Theoretical study includes advanced algorithms, Boolean logic, data structures, and the social, ethical, and legal implications of computing. Many students compete nationally, lead co-curricular activities, or contribute to a culture of innovation through mentoring and outreach. They emerge with the capacity to design systems, evaluate risk, and contribute to digital transformation across multiple fields.

This pathway equips students for further study in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Cybersecurity, and beyond. Through logical reasoning, software development, and ethical enquiry, students develop the digital fluency and resilience to thrive in a tech-driven future — not only as coders, but as creators, leaders, and responsible digital citizens.
