Careers in Hospitality – Preparation for KS4 & KS5 Learners

The Careers and Technical Education team at SkillsHouse, working with local hospitality employers, visitor attractions, colleges and industry partners, have developed this Careers in Hospitality pathway to help learners build the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for progression into hospitality, catering, events and customer service careers.

This pathway introduces learners to the wide range of opportunities available within the hospitality sector through a combination of careers exploration, customer service development, industry insight activities and real-world employer engagement. Activities may include hospitality careers workshops, customer service masterclasses, hotel operation simulations, workplace visits, employer encounters and further education taster opportunities.

Learners will gain an understanding of how hotels, restaurants, catering businesses, visitor attractions and event venues operate, whilst developing essential employability skills including communication, teamwork, adaptability, leadership and professionalism. Through practical activities and interaction with employers, learners will explore job roles such as receptionist, food and beverage supervisor, event coordinator, hotel manager and customer service professional.

The pathway supports KS4 and KS5 learners studying qualifications such as GCSE Hospitality and Catering, BTEC Hospitality, BTEC Travel and Tourism, Business Studies and related vocational programmes. It also helps learners understand progression routes into further education, apprenticeships and employment across the hospitality, tourism and visitor economy sectors.
