Types of learning

The badge shapes represent different types of learning: circles for informal learning, hexagons for training and certified learning, pendants for qualifications, and finally octagons for membership.

Modes of learning

Shading indicates the mode or depth of learning, progressing from left to right:

  • White - Exploring
  • Grey - Deepening
  • Colour - Applying and training
  • Black - Lead level (solid black)

Do you quality assure badges to the framework?

Yes, we provide a quality assurance service. Our team will review your badge designs to ensure they comply with the framework. Badges that meet the standard will receive the official Quality Assurance mark. For more information, please contact us.

How is the framework licensed?

The standard is released under a Creative Commons Non-Commercial No Derivatives (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) Licence.

This allows badge creators and issuers to develop their own badges at no cost, provided they give proper attribution.

You can use the badges created with the framework for profit, such as recognising paid services like certification, training, or credentials.

Exemptions are available for the commercial use of the framework in cases such as platform integration, consultancy services, or quality assurance. Please contact us for more information.
