What is a digital badge?
A digital badge is a verified record of something you have learned, achieved or demonstrated. It holds the detail behind the achievement: the skills involved, who awarded it and what you did to earn it.
What can I get a badge for?
Courses and qualifications, training at work, work experience, volunteering, projects, competitions, community activity and skills you have demonstrated in practice.
Who can award me a badge?
Any organisation that recognises your learning or achievement. That includes employers, colleges, universities, training providers, charities and community organisations.
How do I earn a badge?
You complete whatever the badge asks for. That might be finishing a course, completing a placement, submitting evidence or being assessed by someone at the organisation.
What happens when someone awards me one?
You receive an invitation to claim it. Once claimed, the badge is added to your Navigatr wallet and stays there.
What is my Navigatr wallet?
It is your own place to keep your badges, skills and achievements together, from every part of your life rather than a single organisation.
Can I add badges from other organisations to my wallet?
Yes. Your wallet is designed to hold badges from many different issuers, including badges awarded outside Navigatr that follow open badge standards.
Can I use my badges on my CV or job applications?
Yes. You can share a link to a badge or to your skills profile, so the person reading your application can see the detail behind it.
Can I share a badge on LinkedIn?
Yes. Badges can be shared to LinkedIn and other profiles and networks.
Can employers check that my badges are genuine?
Yes. Every badge can be verified back to the organisation that issued it, along with what was required to earn it.
Who can see my badges and profile?
Your badges are not listed in search engines, so nobody can find them by searching for you. They are seen only by people you send a link to. Anyone who has that link can open it, including someone it has been forwarded to, so share it with people you are happy to see it.
Do I control what I share?
Yes. You choose which badges to share, who with and when.
Do my badges stay with me if I leave an employer, college or programme?
Yes. Your badges belong to you, not to the organisation that awarded them, so they stay in your wallet when you move on.
Does it cost me anything to use Navigatr?
No. Individuals use Navigatr free of charge. Organisations pay to issue and manage badges.
Can I get a certificate for my digital badge?
Yes. Every badge can be downloaded as a PDF certificate, ready to print. Open the badge in your profile, choose the more options icon and select Certificate. Each certificate carries a unique QR code linking back to your verified badge on Navigatr.
