The Spanish PSP Pathway develops confident, creative, and culturally aware linguists who can communicate with fluency, reflect critically on global issues, and respond with intellectual agility in Spanish. Students move from foundational vocabulary and phonics to sophisticated written and spoken expression, underpinned by secure grammar and authentic cultural engagement. The pathway prepares students not only for examinations but for real-world application, further study, and global citizenship.

In Foundation PSP (Years 7–8), students are introduced to the Spanish-speaking world through vibrant topics such as self, family and friends, free time, and food. They gain confidence in phonics and pronunciation, build a secure understanding of present tense structures, and master the near future and imperfect tenses. Written and spoken accuracy is encouraged through scaffolded tasks, and creative projects develop resilience and grammatical precision. Cultural exposure is embedded throughout, with reference to Hispanic traditions, regional differences, and everyday life.

In Pathways PSP (Years 9–11), students deepen their linguistic repertoire while studying GCSE topics such as technology, wellbeing, the environment, and global citizenship. They work across three time frames with increasing sophistication, expanding their repertoire of opinion phrases and connectives, and using a wider range of tenses to argue, narrate, and persuade. Translation, listening, and reading tasks develop decoding strategies and build independence. Oracy is emphasised through role plays and photo discussions, and students gain confidence in formal and informal writing. Cultural topics — from regional customs to Hispanic music and festivals — allow students to make cross-cultural comparisons and reflect on global perspectives.

In Advanced PSP (Years 12–13), students reach an impressively fluent level of communication, mastering complex grammar and idiomatic expression. They explore themes such as immigration, the impact of tourism in Spain, and political and artistic culture in the Hispanic world. Students analyse Lorca's play 'La Casa de Bernarda Alba' and Almodóvar's film 'Volver', evaluating characterisation, themes, techniques and social context. They debate complex issues, explore authentic sources, and complete an Independent Research Project on any topic of their choice, developing academic autonomy and scholarly communication.

The pathway is enriched by the Spelling and Translation Bees in Year 7 and 9 respectively, Sixth Form debating, cultural trips and other prizes and competitions, enabling students to see Spanish not just as a subject but as a tool for connection, leadership, and exploration in an interconnected world.
